Signature Series™ Limited Edition
WWII Vintage Goatskin G-1

 NEW ITEM! This outstanding G-1 is made from a recently discovered supply of mid-1940s vintage medium brown goatskin leather. This leather is the same type of goatskin used in WWII A-2s and G-1s (or M-422As as they were known back then) but the color is medium brown, which is a pleasing departure from the more common dark brown of original G-1s.
Other features include a genuine mouton fur collar, two front cargo pockets (which, like the military G-1, does not include side-entry handwarmers), hidden pen pocket under the left pocket flap, inside map pocket, bi-swing back for freedom of movement, inside wind flap with USN perforation, underarm gussets, throat latch, 100% nylon lining, and knit cuffs & waistband. The leather very supple and very light in weight (while still retaining the inherent durability of goatskin), making this the ideal year 'round jacket -- in the cockpit or out. All in all, this is a G-1 that any naval aviator would be proud to wear! The authentic details & the pedigree of the leather makes our Limited Edition G-1 the perfect jacket to adorn with your favorite WWII-era patches, and its seamless back panel makes it the ideal canvas for customizing with hand-painted "nose art."

Background: A group of students from Ball State University spent the summer of 2008 interviewing 40 veterans of the US Army's First Infantry Division (The Big Red One) as part of the Cantigny First Division Oral History Project. The goal of the interviews was to preserve the memories of soldiers who served in the First Infantry Div, to hear what they went through and what they were thinking when they served. US Wings played host to 19 First Division Vietnam vets from Ohio, Indiana & Kentucky who were interviewed for this project, including Sgt. David Hack (CEO of US Wings & a First Division Vietnam vet). These oral histories will be archived at Ball State University & the First Division Museum as DVDs and webstreams, and will eventually air on the History Channel sometime in 2009, but will also be made available to all other colleges & universities, the Dept of the Army, the ROTC, as well as the US congress & senate.

The first DVD is an overview of the project entitled "Conversations Across Generations" (15 minutes in length), and the second DVD contains the entire uncut, unedited interview with US Wings CEO Sgt. This authentic Indy-style jacket is similar to our adult Vintage Cowhide Indy-style Adventurer jacket, but in kid sizes! Like the adult version, the cowhide leather in our kid-sized version has been pre-distressed for that old & worn look, since no young adventurer would want to be seen in a "new" looking jacket. The jacket also features a bi-swing back for freedom of movement, adjustable side straps, two front cargo pockets with snap flaps* for storing relics, a nylon lining, and two inside pockets to carry even more gear.
